A Letter From Our Managing Director
Give me a minute, if you will, to be retrospective.
When I came here as the Managing Director, I did so with a love of this place, of this community and my belief of working for the good.I saw the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center as a beacon for volunteerism, as a successful working model for what an arts and humanities based institution can do for a town.
I have not, by a long stretch, been disappointed. Last year we had, while transitioning our marketing efforts, three sold out shows. We had a Holiday Tour of Homes event that attracted 3,600 people and earned rave reviews from both the local media and regional sources including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Our Visual Arts Commission Chair Chris Hodges kept Gallery One and Gallery Two filled with amazing art from both local and national artists. More than 300 people came to see the opening of the Eugene Swain exhibit.
We had the up-and-coming A.D. Blanco band rock the same stage that held the Calvary Baptist Choir during our Community Concert. In the summer, our lawn overflowed with folks celebrating the Fourth of July. In the Fall, kids came to our lawn to watch a Halloween movie. In between our Pop Up art shows kept folks coming. Kathy Burton’s vision for The Hall on Foster has increased both its use and its value to our community.
Valle Ashley has told stories at Mallory Agnew’s ‘Open Mic Nights’ and we’ve even had a stand up comedian in the mix.
All this to say, again, thank you. Thank you to the army of volunteers it takes to pull off a tour of homes. Thank you to the folks that, event after event, show up to help us put our best foot forward. We are an institution that relies on the good graces of our volunteers both from a financial perspective and through their sweat.
Every year, through your contributions you give us the motivation and the manpower to move ahead.
This institution, and its successes, mirror a community that has always been anchored on a big-hearted desire to improve everyone. We hold you, our valued volunteer and member, in high regard. Because you are here for us, we will continue to work hard to place value on that trust.
Sincerely,
David Nunn
