‘Equipoise’ brings Beauchamp-Cooke’s evocative style to the Center

Bonnie Beauchamp-Cooke can read a horse in a split second.

“I study the horses and then paint them from a split-second moment in time, in this manner I believe I can best capture the power, personality, thoughts and intensity of the animal that has both fascinated and served man from our earliest history.”

The Atlanta-based artist, who spent years at her family’s Goose Creek Farm in Morgan County riding horses and working cattle, has spent a lifetime understanding the power and grace of the horse.

Beauchamp-Cooke, studied at both the University of Georgia and the Atlanta College of Art and received her BFA in painting and drawing in 1991.

Beauchamp-Cooke’s evocative paintings of horses and landscapes have won appeal and praise and has been published in Verandas, Southwest magazine, Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, Simply Buckhead and the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Her unique work begins with several base layers of mixed media before she paints in both acrylic and oil over the surface creating dynamic sores of art. The texture allows the artist to capture the essence of a horse’s movement and the play of light on a landscape.

Beauchamp-Cooke’s “Equipoise” exhibit will have an opening reception on Saturday, March 1 at 5 p.m. at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center and will be available to enjoy in Gallery One and Gallery Two until April 30.

The exhibit has been made possible through sponsorships by Harrison Design, Main Street Vet and Madison Grace.
