Madison’s Town Spirit Shines Through

“Man on Main Street”

“ 20th Annual Madison-Morgan Cultural Center Independence Day Concert and Picnic” July 3, 2022

If you live in or around Madison, you’ve probably attended or heard of the charming, patriotic, yearly summer picnic on the front lawn of the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center.

Over the years, during some of these concerts, nature has had its way and the “bombs bursting in air” have been thunderstorms, leading to a cancelation of festivities. This year, the wise staff at the MMCC, had a rain plan. The MMCC staff and the Classic City Band, in the small town tradition of making lemonade out of lighting lemons, executed a quick pivot and moved the event to the Hall on Foster Street.

This move resulted in the very best of Madison town spirit shining through drenched festive attire, table decor, picnic fare and the smiling faces of those who attended.

The conductor, Michael Alan Brewer of the Classic City Band of Athens remarked that the closer quarters meant that the audience was more attentive and there was much more participation in the “sing-a-longs”.

Uncle Sam led the presentation of colors done by Boy Scout Troop #91 of Madison and the band played a medley of the armed service anthems, recognizing the men and women currently serving as well as our veterans.

The Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, and God Bless America were also performed to a red, white and blue room of appreciative MMCC picnickers.
