About the Instructor:

Dana Wiggins Thompson's journey from the heart of Washington County, Georgia to the enchanting landscapes of Dubai, United Arab Emirates is nothing short of a captivating odyssey. A true art aficionado, Dana embarked on her artistic voyage at the tender age of 21, when she decided to relocate to the mesmerizing United Arab Emirates in 1984.

In the bustling heart of Dubai, a city known for its dazzling modernity and rich cultural tapestry, Dana found herself immersed in the mesmerizing world of watercolors. Guided by the expert hands of international luminaries in the field, such as the illustrious Jean Haines and Trevor Waugh, she honed her craft at the prestigious Dubai International Art Centre. The canvas became her realm, and her artistic prowess began to shine like a desert gem.

As the sun-drenched sands of Dubai witnessed Dana's artistic metamorphosis, her works gained acclaim and recognition. Her watercolors and photography graced the shelves of luxurious resorts like the ONE and ONLY Royal Mirage and The Ritz Carlton, where guests could immerse themselves in her creative vision.

In 2003, Dana's talent burst into the spotlight as she fearlessly entered the inaugural United Arab Emirates Watercolor Plein Air Extravaganza, supported by the eminent Winsor Newton from the UK. Against fierce competition, she claimed the Second position, showcasing her prowess on a national stage. The following year, she clinched the prestigious UAE Watercolor Extravaganza, marking her artistic zenith just before her return to the United States.

Back on American soil, Dana's artistic journey took a new turn as she shared her knowledge and passion with aspiring artists. She became an educator, teaching classes at various institutions, including Oconee Fall Line Technical School campuses in 5 counties, Allied Arts in Milledgeville, The Artisans Village Guild in Eatonton and Georgia College in Milledgeville.

Dana's accolades and awards continued to pour in, with numerous wins at the Georgia National Fair from 2016 -2023. The year 2023 brought a double triumph at the fair, with Dana securing first and second places in the professional watercolor division. Her creative prowess extended to Mixed Media, where she claimed the top spot.

Notably, the accolades weren't limited to Georgia alone. Dana's artistry shone brightly at the Georgia Color Plein Air event in Braselton, Georgia, where she secured the third position in October 2022. The art world couldn't help but take notice.

Adding to her impressive resume, Dana is a prominent member of the Georgia Watercolor Society, where she holds the distinguished roles of National and Members Show Co-Chair for 2022-2023 and second Vice President for 2023. She is also an active contributor to the Village Artists Guild in Eatonton, Georgia.

Her preferred artistic subjects - still life, portraits, and landscapes - reflect the diversity of her creative spirit. Dana's artistic journey is truly a kaleidoscope of expression, capturing the essence of life and the world around her.

Today, Dana resides in the picturesque Baldwin County, Georgia nestled alongside her husband and four Boston terrier rescues. Apart from her artistic pursuits, she's a passionate culinary enthusiast, Watercolor teacher, avid reader, and a devoted student of holistic remedies. Dana's heart is further enriched by her role as wife and grandmother, weaving a tapestry of love and artistry that continues to flourish.
